Help & FAQ
Everything you need to know about using Nivi to protect your legacy.
Getting Started
What is Nivi?
Nivi is a secure digital vault that helps you organize and protect your important information — assets, liabilities, responsibilities, memories, and documents. Everything is protected with advanced end-to-end encryption. Only you can see your data, and after you, only your beneficiaries.
Creating your account
- Download the Nivi app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Enter your email address and create a strong password.
- Verify your phone number.
- Set up your vault password — choose something strong, memorable, and hard to guess.
- Complete face registration for added security.
Your vault password
Only you control your password. For your safety, Nivi can't recover it on new devices. Write it down and store it somewhere safe, separate from your device.
Managing Beneficiaries
What is a beneficiary?
A beneficiary is someone you designate to receive access to your digital vault — your assets, documents, and memories — if something happens to you. Think of it as naming someone in a digital will.
How to add a beneficiary
- Go to the Beneficiaries tab in the app.
- Tap Add Beneficiary.
- Enter their basic information: name, relationship, email, and phone number.
- Add a government-issued ID (such as a passport or driver's license) by taking a photo.
- Take a face photo of the beneficiary for identity verification.
- Review and confirm the details.
Why do we need a government ID and face photo?
When the time comes for your beneficiary to receive your vault, we need to verify their identity to prevent unauthorized access. The government ID and face photo allow us to confirm that the person claiming access is truly who you intended. All photos are fully encrypted — our servers never see the originals.
Assigning beneficiaries to your items
After adding a beneficiary, you can assign them to specific assets, liabilities, responsibilities, or memories. Open any item in your vault and use the Assign Beneficiary option to choose who should receive it.
Custodians (Trusted Helpers)
Why do you need a custodian?
Custodians are like witnesses to your will. After a period of inactivity on your part, we ask them to confirm your demise. Once the required number of custodians confirm, Nivi initiates the handover process to your beneficiaries. Custodians cannot access your information.
How does the custodian system work?
- You invite trusted people to be your custodians through the app.
- Each custodian accepts the invitation and installs the Nivi app.
- Each custodian independently holds a secure role in protecting your vault. Custodians cannot access your data.
- If you become inactive (based on your chosen settings), your custodians are asked to respond.
- Only when enough custodians agree does the process to transfer your vault to beneficiaries begin.
What custodians can and cannot see
Custodians cannot see any of your vault data — not your assets, documents, photos, or personal information. Their role is purely to confirm your status when asked. They can see that you have invited them as a custodian and respond to liveness check requests.
How many custodians do I need?
You choose how many custodians to invite and how many must agree before your vault is released. Even with a single custodian, your vault remains protected by your password — custodians only confirm your inactivity to start the handover process.
Activity Monitoring
What is the activity check?
The activity check is a safety mechanism that monitors whether you are still actively using the app. If you become inactive for a period you define (for example, 90 days), the system begins a liveness check process by notifying your custodians.
How the liveness check works
- If you have not logged in or checked in within your chosen time period, a wellness check begins.
- Your custodians are notified and asked to confirm whether they believe you are unable to manage your vault.
- If enough custodians agree, a grace period begins during which you can still cancel the process by logging in.
- If the grace period passes without your action, your vault is released to your beneficiaries.
How to complete an activity check
Simply log in to the Nivi app regularly. Every time you open the app and authenticate, your activity timer resets. You can also manually check in from the app if you want to reset your timer without browsing your vault.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data safe?
Yes. All your data is protected with advanced end-to-end encryption. Our servers only store encrypted data that we cannot read, decrypt, or access. Even if our servers were compromised, your data would remain encrypted.
What happens if I lose my phone?
You can log in on a new device using your email and password. Your encrypted data is stored on our servers and will sync to your new device once you authenticate. If you have biometric login set up, you will need to reconfigure it on the new device.
Can Nivi staff see my data?
No. Your data is encrypted with advanced end-to-end encryption before it reaches our servers. We do not have the ability to decrypt it. Only you can see your data, and after you, only your beneficiaries.
What if a custodian loses their phone?
You can reset your custodians' security roles at any time from the app. This invalidates the previous setup and creates a fresh one. The lost device's access becomes useless.
How do I change my activity check settings?
Go to Profile > Settings in the app. You can adjust how frequently you need to check in and how long the inactivity period is before a wellness check begins.
Can I remove a beneficiary or custodian?
Yes. You have full control over your beneficiaries and custodians. You can add, edit, or remove them at any time from the respective sections in the app.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile > Account in the app and follow the account deletion process. All your encrypted data will be permanently removed from our servers. This action cannot be undone.
Is Nivi free to use?
Nivi offers a free tier with core features. Premium and Enterprise plans are available with higher limits and additional capabilities. You can view plans in the app under Profile > Subscription.
How do I pass documents to my family after I die?
With Nivi, you add documents and memories to your digital vault, assign them to specific beneficiaries, and appoint custodians. If you become inactive, custodians confirm your status. Once confirmed, your beneficiaries receive access after identity verification. Your documents and assets reach the right hands — not before.
What is the best app for storing important documents safely?
Nivi is a zero-knowledge digital vault designed for important documents, assets, and memories. Your data is encrypted before it leaves your device — we cannot read it. You can also plan your legacy: assign beneficiaries and custodians so your documents reach the right people when the time comes.
Where can I safely store my assets and documents?
A digital vault like Nivi keeps your assets and documents in encrypted, zero-knowledge storage. Only you hold the key. You organise items into spaces, add beneficiaries, and custodians ensure a secure handover. Learn more at niviapps.com/digital-vault.
How does legacy planning work with Nivi?
You create spaces, add assets and memories, and assign beneficiaries (with verified identity). You appoint custodians who confirm your inactivity when asked — they cannot access your data. If you stop checking in, custodians are notified. When enough agree, your legacy is released to verified beneficiaries. Learn about legacy planning.
